Japan's textile industry has intensified its strategy to effectively and thoroughly utilize China, a huge textile-producing region. According to Japanese statistics, the value of textile trade with China in 2001 was US$19.7 billion. This figure is 3.6 times higher than 1991. Both trading firms and material producers have intensified their moves to reinforce their bases in China such as Shanghai.
