NSW: Man trapped under mower, motorcyclist injured

SYDNEY, Dec 22 AAP - A man was trapped under a half-tonne ride-on lawn mower afterit overturned on a NSW Southern Highlands property today.

The 34-year-old man from Albion Park, south of Wollongong, was mowing lawn on a steepslope of the property, south-west of Sydney, when the mower overturned pinning him underneath.

NRMA CareFlight rescue helicopter spokesman Ian Badham said the man had a crushed legand acid burns to his back from the machine's battery.

Heat shock had also raised his body temperature to 42 degrees which Mr Badham describedas "a dangerously high level".

The man was flown to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist underwent emergency surgery in hospital today after skiddingon loose gravel.

The 42-year-old man from Cherrybrook, in Sydney's north-west, had chest, abdominal,back and internal injuries, several fractured ribs and severe internal bleeding.

The incident happened near Lake Lyle, about 15km west of Lithgow about 9am (AEDT) today.

NRMA CareFlight flew the man to Sydney's Nepean Hospital where he remained in the intensivecare unit following surgery, Mr Badham said.

A companion rider was uninjured in the crash.
