Midway Airlines went out of business recently, and I feel like Ilost a friend.
As a weekly commuter between Chicago and New York for manyyears, I know what Midway meant when it said "our spirit will liftyou" in its advertising.
It meant people like Joe and Christine, flight attendants, withwhom I started flying in 1979 when Midway was just a startup withno-frills service. I saw Christine on a recent Los Angeles flight,and she immediately recognized me, even slipping me an extra piece ofchocolate cake.
It meant the flight attendant who had "Oh, Miss" on her badge.Or Ray, Christine, Valerie, Helen and all the others in New York whoprovided excellent …
